To count or not to count calories is a common question among dieters. As many people i used to count calories and i even had a food diary where i wrote down everything i ate. I no longer count calories. There are many reasons that made me chose not to. For example i was always counting and looking for low calorie meals, and since i was doing this i was thinking of food all the time, and thinking of food made me hungry. Another reason is knowing that walking in the treadmill for an hour would help me lose about 340 calories and then eating just an apple would gain me 100 calories back was frustrating. We all know that eating a grill chicken instead of 4 slices of pizza is a much healthier option. Drinking water or tea over soda will help us save lots of calories. Changing my eating habits little by little instead from one day to another. I do think that eating or thinking of food all the time is an addiction, and trying to change your eating habits or your calorie intake from one day to another will most likely get you not to succeed. If you had been able to highly decrease your calories intake from one day to another ( i am sincerely happy for you ) but didn't you suffer a lot? Another reason was cheating myself. Counting calories for me was like trying to save money on the drink to afford the meal. What i mean by this is that i would try to consume low calories in breakfast and lunch so i can pig out at night while watching TV. This are some of the reasons that made me not to count calories but instead just to make the right decisions and knowing the consequences of not making them.
